Kevin White’s first four years in the NFL did not go according to plan. Now it’s time for a new one, and that could include Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers.
Injuries plagued White’s first three seasons with the Bears, and when finally healthy, was an afterthought in new coach Matt Nagy’s offense.
Now White is a free-agent. The Panthers have two young receivers in D.J. Moore and Curtis Samuel who showed enough promise last year for them to let former starter Devin Funchess go this offseason. Torrey Smith is a free-agent but is looking to re-sign with Carolina. The price for bringing him back might be heftier than what they’re willing to spend.
Per Josh Klein of Roaring Riot, the team will be looking for an inexpensive option with a lot of upside and lists White as the first option on the list.
White will likely not garner many, or any, lucrative offers and will need to prove himself next season. With Cam Newton and Luke Keuchly, the Panthers receive a good amount of national attention, and if White signs for, say, one season and performs well, he could leverage that into a bigger contract in 2020.
